KiÖR Stadt Zürich - Altstetten Alphabet

17 April – 5 July 2026

Twenty-six flags featuring plant motifs, accompanied by audio recordings, transform Zurich’s Altstetten neighborhood into a poetic reflection on its rich plant life and cultural diversity.

«Altstetten Alphabet» focuses on plants that are part of everyday life in Altstetten and have ecological or cultural significance for the neighborhood. Artist Riikka Tauriainen developed the project together with contributors connected to Altstetten, who explore these plants through perspectives such as cultivation, cooking, fermentation, personal memory, and ecology.

Xenia Meier: Production assistant
Oscar Hughes: Translation
Chiara Zarotti: Graphic design support of the flags

Fruit Is Love - A Listening Ritual

February 2025 - ongoing

Fruit is Love is an immersive performance piece conceived in collaboration with Thi My Lien Nguyen. The work explores the hidden meanings embedded in subtle gestures and the role of sound as a carrier of cultural memory.

The piece dissolves the boundary between performer and participant — the entire room becomes a stage, and everyone within it a figure in a scene. At its core is a 4-channel speaker system through which sounds from distant places interweave, conjuring an atmosphere that is both familiar and unknown, suspended between lullaby and and a feeling of departure.

Artistic Research Project - Thailand 2025

May/ June 2025

In 2025, supported by a grant from the City of Zurich, I travelled to Thailand for a research residency exploring the relationship between sound, memory, and cultural belonging. The trip was driven by a personal question: what role do acoustic environments play in the experience of living between cultures — and what do the sounds of a distant home do to the body and the mind?

I returned with over 30 hours of field recordings, a deepened practice of Deep Listening, and a renewed sense of artistic direction. The material gathered became the foundation for new works, including the composition Rain — a piece inspired by the monsoon, built entirely from a single vocal sample — and the performance piece Fruit is Love, developed in collaboration with artist Thi My Lien Nguyen. More than a research trip, the residency marked a turning point: a space to carry my in-between perspective openly and lovingly

Live Solo Performance

In my solo practice, I perform live with electronics and voice, layering self-recorded field recordings, synthesis, and occasionally acoustic instruments into something slow, dark, and immersive. The work draws from nature and the textures of the everyday, transforming them into soundscapes that sit somewhere between contemplation and dream.

The live performance is never quite finished. I treat it as an ongoing experiment, always searching for new textures, new ways to inhabit a room with sound. Below you can find a live recording from 2024 — a snapshot of where the work was at that moment.

Tag der Offenen Tür Sonic Rote Fabrik

September 2025

8-Channel Sonic Intervention at CB-Lab for Rote Fabrik

As part of the Tag der Offenen Tür, we programmed a set of MIDI controllers to function as gyroscopes, using them to spatially navigate a collection of sound files I produced and curated across an 8-channel system. The result was an engaging experience for seasoned sound practitioners and curious newcomers alike.

I've been a board member of CB-Lab since April 2022 and remain deeply involved with the association — a community-built and community-run sound studio housed at Rote Fabrik. Whether you're joining us for the next Open Lab session or one of the other initiatives we have in the works, you’re welcome to pop by. Check it out here.

Helvetiarockt Residency

Lützelflüh-Goldbach, November 2024

In November 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in a week-long Helvetiarockt Residency in Lützelflüh-Goldbach, a dedicated space to step away from the everyday and fully immerse myself in musical work. The residency brought together a group of artists, creating room for meaningful exchange, new connections, and uninterrupted creative focus.

Photography - A Visual Exploration

Recently I have picked up the practice of capturing special moments through the lens of an analogue camera. I am still rather new in capturing my world visually, I still find it incredibly fun to find sights in my life that I want to capture.
